Skiing possibilities in Ylläs and Levi

Ylläs and Levi are a year-round holiday destinations in Finnish Lapland.  Situated 170km north of the Arctic Circle, the area offers guaranteed snow from November to May. For cross-country skiers the Ylläs-Levi area is a true oasis.


Ylläs has many diferent kind of activities to offer, variety of services, events and new experiences for you on your holiday. Travel and tourism lives strongly in the area and the local people are genuine. There is two different lappish villages in the area; Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi. There are total of 850 persons living in the area.

With 63 slopes and 29 lifts Ylläs is the largest resort in Lapland and Finland. Ylläs has excellent snowpark areas, super-G slope and off-piste slopes. For snowboarders Ylläs is a dream come true with many possibilities. Ylläs is also one of the most popular places among telemark skiers and off-piste skiers with several fells of untouched snow.

There are total of 330 km of mechanically prepared trails are available and 38 km of these are illuminated. The great fells are easy to reach also for beginners. The trails are arranged so that the route can be changed as desired, therefore giving countless alternatives in the beautiful nature. There are so many different routes that you can choose a new one every day. Many of the tracks take you inside the Pallas-Ylläs National park where the pure nature is carefully preserved.


A Forest Sámi settlement dating 1600 the village has become the popular ski resort Levi of today in only 52 years (from the first lift opened in 1964). Levi is today’s market leader as ski resort and winter holiday destination in Lapland and Finland.

Levi offers 43 alpine slopes, 28 lifts of which 10 free of charge for children, children outdoor playing areas in the center (Kid’s Land) and on the south slopes (Leevilandia) as well as 230km of prepared cross country skiing tracks for classic and skating skiers, 20km of prepared winter walking trails and an increased number of tracks specifically for fat biking. The 886km of maintained snowmobile routes allow for long distance thrilling exploring into the wilderness.

In the network of cross county skiing tracks totalling 230 kilometres in length, there are suitable ones for Sunday skiers, active fitness enthusiasts and competitors honing their skills. 28 kilometres of tracks in the Rakkavaara area are also illuminated for late time skiing. All skiing tracks in Levi are suitable for both classic and free technique. The little trail cafés that can be found along the way are mainly open during the spring season. At Levi, people are still skiing in May!
